Emotional Intelligence, coping with stress and executive coaching.
The presentation introduces the research results (and their use in every day work and the success of it) made by Enikő Papp and her Team. The aim of the research was to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and stress management in a group (251 leaders) of middle level and top managerment. An additional purpose was to introduce the executive coaching method as an efficient intervention opportunity to develop emotional intelligence and/or to prevent management stress. We asked leaders of their opinion and their experiences with executive coaching. Results show significant correlation between emotional intelligence, coping with stress and executive coaching. That means, leaders who took part in a coaching session, could better manage their stress and improve their emotional intelligence. This outcome suggests that using executive coaching enhances emotional competence, which assists leaders to adopt active and effective coping strategies when dealing with stress. At the end they are able to enhance their overall performance.
Today’s business changes are very apparent on the executive level, which means that leaders must be prepared to be strong right from the beginning and maintain strength and agility. This is not easy. Moreover, teams have to work better, faster, much more effective and have to do so under greater pressure. Leaders must prepare for the challenges that come along with leadership positions today.
